Huguang Guild Hall

The Huguang Guild Hall was established by people from Hunan and Hubei provinces to connect with their hometown ties, mainly used for compatriots to stay or gather at certain times.

The old site of the Beijing Huguang Guild Hall is located on the south side of the east entrance of Luomashi Street in Xuanwu District (originally west of Hufangqiao). The Huguang Guild Hall, located on the west side of Hufangqiao, was built during the Wanli period of the Ming Dynasty. At that time, Zhang Juzheng donated his private residence to build the All-Chu Guild Hall, which later became a private residence. The Qing Dynasty writer Ji Xiaolan also lived here. In the twelfth year of Jiaqing (1807), it was rebuilt into the Huguang Guild Hall, covering a total area of more than 43,000 square meters. In the tenth year of Daoguang, a large stage was built in the guild hall, where Tan Xinpei and Tian Guifeng performed. Zeng Guofan celebrated his sixtieth birthday here; revolutionary figures in the capital also welcomed Mr. Sun Yat-sen here multiple times, and the founding conference of the Kuomintang was held here. The original main entrance of the guild hall faced east, with beautifully carved brick sculptures. Inside the hall, there are a theater, a main hall, and a garden. The theater is located at the front of the hall, with two levels of viewing platforms on the north, east, and west sides that can accommodate thousands of people. In the late Qing and early Republic of China, Tan Xinpei, Yu Shuyan, and others performed here. The guild hall operates a model of "theater, teahouse, restaurant, and museum" on three floors, providing international services to customers.
